SWELL Sculpture Festival

SWELL Sculpture Festival is a highlight of Gold Coast arts and culture, offering an awe-inspiring experience to add to the top of your list this Spring. Attracting local, national and international artists, installations are scattered across various locations, with over 60 large scale sculptures finding a home at Currumbin Beach for the main exhibition. Enjoy these unique creations at your own pace or choose to participate in a twilight guided tour through the artworks.
With free workshops for the kids, Fringe events for the grown ups, and even Pilates for you and your pooch (yes you heard right), there are all sorts of interesting discoveries woven throughout this delightful festival unique to our beautiful city.
In operation for over two decades, SWELL is a wonderful opportunity to experience artistic creativity in a beautiful natural landscape.
ArtVo Illusions Immersive Gallery Experience
Location: Robina Town Centre
When: Open Monday to Sunday
ArtVo is a must-see for anyone exploring Gold Coast arts and culture, providing an opportunity to immerse yourself in art, quite literally! Spanning 6 huge rooms, this experience builds on the concept of a traditional art gallery, allowing visitors to become part of the art. ArtVo staff will be on hand to help you capture the optimal shot on your own device, as you battle a dragon, enter platform 9 ¾ on your way to Hogwarts, or show off your surfing prowess.
The whole family can explore this innovative art experience, which is open every day, including extended hours during the school holidays.
The Gold Coast Show
Location: Broadwater Parklands
When: Friday 30 August – Sunday 1 September 2024
The Gold Coast show has something for everyone! From baby animals, fireworks and showbags to wood chopping, ute musters and equestrian displays, the list of things to see and do is extensive. Looking for live music? Originally a camel farmer from Central Queensland, Australian Idol contestant, Trent Richardson, has been named as this year’s Show Ambassador. Be sure to catch him on the Triple M Live and Loud stage, along with a range of musical and performative entertainment across the 3-day event. With free entry for all attendees, this event aims to drive a strong sense of community, whilst celebrating and preserving our history.
Zirque La La
Location: Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub
When: Shows running from August through to November 2024
Exclusive to Pink Flamingo, Zirque La La showcases some of the best in cabaret and circus performance. Bringing together an energetic balance of Circus, Burlesque, Vaudeville and Cabaret, complemented with a comedic edge, this is an adults only cultural experience.
Performers demonstrate sheer talent, adorned in costumes of glitz and glamour, in a fantastical venue that will completely transport you. This is a high energy show featuring world class performers, and is creatively pieced together to leave you in awe. Sit back, let your hair down and allow Ring Master Jerome to guide you through a sensory experience not soon to be forgotten!
Maui
Location: HOTA
When: 23 & 24 August
This performance brings to life the story of Pacific demigod, Maui, through a range of mediums woven together to create an experience not to be missed. From contemporary dance choreographed by Hadleigh Pouesi and Christopher Ofanoa, to spoken word, animations and music, this performance aims to move and inspire.
A cast of 30 performers take the audience on a journey of Pacific migration stories, exploring myths and legends of mighty Pacific warriors. This performance is open to all ages.
Up next in Gold Coast Cultural Experiences: HOTA have announced their latest Triennial exhibition: Here and Now, opening at the end of September. These exhibitions take place every three years, and in this instance will feature a range of mediums to showcase Gold Coast artists.
